India orders major airports to cut some charges by 25%, in relief to airlines:

India's airport tariff regulator has ordered major airports to cut landing and parking charges by 25% for three months for domestic flights, offering relief to the country's airlines that are under financial pressure due to the US-Iran war.

The move to cut charges comes after IndiGo and Air India sought the rationalisation of some fees levied by airports. The country's two largest airlines are facing a double whammy from the US-Iran war, as Indian airlines are already barred from flying over Pakistan.

Important Visa Updates:

Operationalization of visa free transit for Indian nationals transiting through French airports:

Following an announcement made by Prime Minister Modi and President Macron during the latter's visit to India in February 2026, Indian nationals are no longer required to obtain an airport transit visa when passing through the international zone of airports in France with effect from April 10, 2026.

The announcement was confirmed by the Embassy of France in India in a press release issued on April 23, 2026. The exemption applies strictly to passengers who remain in the international transit area during their layover at a French airport while travelling onwards to a third country.

France follows Germany in offering visa-free transit for Indians:

France is not the only European country to ease transit rules for Indian passport holders in recent months. In January 2026, Germany also announced that Indian nationals would no longer require a Schengen Airport Transit Visa, commonly referred to as a Type A visa, when transiting through its international airports.

This exemption applies to passengers connecting through major German hubs such as Frankfurt and Munich while travelling to a non-Schengen destination. The decision was announced during German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's first official visit to India on January 12 and 13, 2026.

Together, these developments are expected to simplify travel, reduce costs and ease planning for Indian passengers using key European airports as transit hubs, making long-haul journeys smoother and more accessible.

EU Entry/Exit System: Information about changing requirements for travellers to countries in the Schengen area

From April 10, 2026, the European Union’s (EU) new Entry/Exit System (EES) became fully operational for non-EU travellers visiting the Schengen Area for short stays.

What you need to know:

  • No more manual passport stamping
  • Applies to all third-country nationals travelling for short stays
  • There is no cost for EES registration and no action needs to be taken before you arrive in the EU

At the airport:

  • Travellers should register biometrics in advance at self-service kiosks
  • Helps reduce waiting time and ensures smoother entry
The countries in the Schengen area are:

Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.

The Republic of Ireland and Cyprus are not within the Schengen area, and therefore the EES is not applicable when travelling to either of these countries.
