1 Bagdogra-Pelling ( approx 150 kms ) On arrival at the Bagdogra Airport, transfer to Pelling, which is approximately a 5 hours picturesque journey along the Tista Valley that takes you to the Sikkim border at Melli. From Melli the drive continues along the Rangit Valley passing through the towns of Jorethang and Lebship and on to Pelling. On arrival check in at the Hotel / Resort booked for you. Pelling is the nearest point to Kanchanjunga mountain, third highest peak in the world & thirteen other snow-capped peaks.Pelling is about 133 km away from Siliguri and 125 km from Gangtok and well connected by bus and jeep services. 7 Around Gangtok After breakfast, proceed for a day trip to Tsangu lake and Nathula (Optional) Tsangu lake is a typically beautiful mountain lake totally frozen in winter. During other times of the year the cool, placid water of the lake harmonizes with the scenic beauty around which is doubled by its reflection in the lake. Yak rides are also offered at the lake site. Nathula pass is the major pass connecting Sikkim to the Chinese autonomous region of Tibet. In ancient times the silk route trade between India and China was conducted through this pass. With the recent success in the Indo China border talks this pass has been recognized by both the government of India and China as the official route for conducting future trade between the two Asian giants. However only domestic tourists are allowed to visit the Nathula pass. (The pass is open for visit on Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.) Return back to Gangtok in the evening. 8 Gangtok-Darjeeling (approx 118 kms ) After breakfast, proceed for Darjeeling. DARJEELING is one of the most magnificent hill resorts in the world. This heavenly retreat is bathed in hues of every shade. The flaming red rhododendrons, the sparkling white magnolias, the miles of undulating hillsides covered with emerald green tea bushes, the exotic forests of silver fir-all under the blanket of a brilliant azure sky dappled with specks of clouds, compellingly confounds Darjeeling as The Queen of Hill Stations the name is derived from the Tibetan word ‘Dorje’ which means the precious stone or ecclesiastical sceptre, which is emblematic of the thunderbolt of Indra, and ‘ling’ - a place, hence the land of the thunderbolt. The sceptre of Indra is believed to have fallen at a place where now stands the Observatory Hill. Straddling a ridge at 2134m and surrounded by a tea plantations, Darjeeling has been a popular hill station since the British established it as an R&R centre for their troops in mid-1800s. 9 In Darjeeling Early morning depart for a full day sightseeing tour. Visit the Tiger Hill (accessible by jeep only). From here the great Mount Everest is visible on clear days. Also visit the Ghoom monastery. Some of the other sightseeing options are - Lebong village, which has the highest race course in the world, the Mountaineering Institute House of Tensing Norgay and the Botanical Gardens. In the evening visit the tea gardens. Overnight in Darjeeling. |
